Performed by the Stars of Tomorrow Alongside the Stars of Today
Ann Brodie’s Carolina Ballet has produced some of today’s
finest professional ballet dancers. Each year, dancers return to
their alma mater to perform alongside student dancers in the
annual performance of The Nutcracker. This year, Cooper Rust,
a Columbia native who has danced professionally in the U.S.
and in Europe, and who started a dance school in Kenya, will
dance the Sugar Plum Fairy role. Bo Busby, also a Columbia
native and a principal dancer with Columbia City Ballet, will
dance as Cavalier. Eric Beckham of the Miami City Ballet and
Jimmy Moon, an actor who lives in NYC will also perform.
With a phenomenal cast of over 250 members, the ballet is
performed at beautiful Township Auditorium, with amazing
snow scenes where it actually snows! Costumes are equally
stunning and are perfected down to the tiniest rhinestone on
the smallest mouse.
This is the only performance of The Nutcracker in the Columbia
area with a full orchestra – the Columbia Festival Orchestra,
conducted by Neil Casey. Also appearing is the Capella Pueri,
the St. Peter’s Catholic School choir. The music is as it was
originally written. Fresh choreography and sets make the show
exciting from one year to the next.
