Take a Day Trip to Lancaster, SC!

July 2, 2019

Landsford Canal State Park
Start your day of exploration at the Landsford Canal State Park, just 25 minutes outside Lancaster and 65 miles from downtown Columbia. Stretched along the Catawba River on the South Carolina fall line, the park is home to the well-preserved remains of the canal system that made the river commercially navigable from 1820 to 1835.  A flat, easy to walk 1.5 mile trail winds follows the Landsford Canal, built to bypass the rocky rapids of the Catawba River.  Today, the remnants of the original canal stonework and “locks” that equalized the water can still be seen toward the south end of the trail.

Next stop… lunch at Mariachis Mexican, voted the best Mexican restaurant for 10 years in a row by The Lancaster News “Best of the Best” Readers Choice Awards. And #1 out of 44 restaurants reviewed on TripAdvisor… must be awesome! It’s on the way into town from Landsford Canal at 1217 Hwy. 9 Bypass West.

Downtown Lancaster :: a lively downtown offers a couple places to have a look-see – Bob Doster’s Backstreet Studios, where Mr. Doster creates award-winning sculpture and The Craft Stand, where you can hang out over a cold craft beer in their Tap Room and purchase something refreshing to bring back home. And if you’re able, head to Lancaster on July 7 to hear Ragtime Pianist Ethan Uslan perform Classical Pops at 2:30pm at the Lancaster Cultural Arts Center. Advance tickets are $15 at or $20 at the door.

  1. Landsford Canal State Park is actually in Chester County; it’s also about 25/30 minutes from Chester….
