We will soon contribute to the collective sigh of relief as heat abates and cool breezes are with us again. Yes, dear friends, Autumn is here. How often did you complain about the heat this Summer? Now you’ll have nothing to complain about except something else…the Gamecocks (hope not), the elections (why not) and your relatives coming for Thanksgiving (say not).
Nope, not gonna talk about T-Day just yet. Let’s talk September & October. Highlights include Park(ing) Day on Sept. 20 (head downtown to see what our city’s creatives have done to ordinary parking spaces), Columbia’s own Hootie & the Blowfish are playing 3 nights to record crowds (tix still available for Sept. 11 show), get your little red wagon to the Midlands Plant & Flower Show at the Farmers Market Sept. 20 – 22, Carrie Underwood comes to town on Sept. 29… the Sept. calendar begins on p. 8. On Oct. 4, the Columbia Museum of Art opens “Van Gogh & His Inspirations”, Congaree Swampfest is Oct. 4-5, Oktoberfest celebrations begin (p. 22) , the SC State Fair opens Oct. 9, Harlem 100 comes Oct. 11, hayrides, corn mazes and haunted houses start up in early Oct. (page 12), and there are 100’s of other fun things to do, live music to hear, family fun to share, festivals to get festive, and additional general frolicking.
Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero! Seize the day, put very little trust in tomorrow!
Cheers from all of us at Gardener Media!
